- It depends on what the site has to do. Blogging often, editing text yourself every day, or working with a tight budget? WordPress is a fair choice. If the site mainly has to win customers, load instantly and run without plugin risk, custom-coded is the better investment.
- What are the downsides of WordPress?
- Every plugin you add is a potential leak you now have to maintain, and skipping updates isn't an option. Many themes also look like thousands of other sites, which makes it harder to stand out. Stack a page builder, a caching plugin and tracking scripts on top, and the site often ends up slower than a visitor will tolerate.
- Is a custom-built website more expensive than WordPress?
- Upfront, often yes: a WordPress site with a decent theme can go live for a few hundred euros. But look three years out: licences, premium plugins and update work come back every year, and a hacked or outdated site costs you time and customers.
